Books on canoes’ gala
The whole team of the association regrets to announce the postponement of the 2nd edition of its Charity Gala which was to be held on Friday 3rd April 2020 at 7.30 pm in Uccle.
As you know, the government has taken various measures to protect citizens from the coronavirus. The ban on assembly is one of them.
As a result, we are compelled to postpone our charity gala until later. Given the situation, we cannot yet set a new date, but you should be aware that your tickets will be refunded.
We will of course keep you informed when the situation has stabilized, but in the meantime, please take good care of yourself and your loved ones.
The entire Book on Canoes’ team thanks you for your understanding and hopes to see you all soon!
Books on canoes is a charity fighting against rural exodus by promoting the right to education for children living near rivers.
Located in Brussels (Belgium), the charity aims to accompany and to send education and culture to needy children living in sub-Saharan Africa.
Moreover, Books on Canoes regularly conducts advocacy missions as well as campaigns aiming to sensitize public, governmental authorities, medias and civil society to the problem of children drownings on their way to school.
IN A FEW WORDS
OUR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
The Democratic Republic of Congo is the first country where Book of Canoes is active. In rural zones of the country, access to education is particularly difficult. Our concern is to help children to forge a better future where they were born. The charity undertakes very concrete actions on the spot.
In the marginalized areas of the Manzanka territory, children have to go alone to school on canoes as access to education is particularly difficult. With 70% of children who do not know how to swim and the dangers of the Congo river, school children go to school at the risk of their lives. That is how unfortunately they end up drowning on their way to school.
For these reasons, Books on canoes have decided to undertake concrete actions to offer a safer way to school and better schooling conditions for children.
Firstly, we have a partnership with a school in the fishing camp of Nganda-Mosolo in which we have installed running water and built sanitation.
Secondly, we have built our first school boat which allow children to access education safely.
And today, our priority is to build a local school on stilts in the island of Nganda-Nsenge (Mankanza Territory).
We need your help to allow these school children to benefit better educational conditions. Donate, save a life !
THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN OUR PROJECT AND FOR SUPPORTING us!
THEY GAVE US A BOOST !
WHY MAKE A DONATION?
Our universe is no longer a closed space or a space made up of closed vessels. What rages here as a scourge immediately becomes a danger elsewhere.
The rivers in which the young people drown in the rural exodus to the south become directly seas in which they perish in the crossing to the north. The drowning of young people in the rivers of the south in search of “knowledge” is also the drowning of young people (immigrants) in the ocean of despair in the north.
Many calamities call for a little more solidarity, empathy, generosity and respect.
Why not act together to stop the perilous evils here and there?
Books on Canoes needs your support to act together for the emergence of a harmonious world.
